Some advice please...................

I wish to sell a couple of sails on eBay but I have no idea who to approach to arrange their transport to the purchaser. Can anyone recommend a carrier or courier and about how much should I expect to pay? Or will the Post Office take it?

Thanks

Have a look at ParcelMonkey or Parcel2Go, both of which let you but in dimensions, weight, origin and (hypothetical) destination to get prices from a range of carriers, including Parcelforce.

Hi Fascadale. A question about the selling; easy? I'm always nervous about selling on eBay, I'm nervous about bidding to if it comes to that. Did they go quickly? Just as important, did you get the problem with the Beta sorted?

You are quite right, much more important is the Beta.

I think we left Lowestoft after you and then got to Edinburgh without another stop. Towards the end of the passage we lost the wind so did the last 20 hours with the motor. Despite making the modifications discussed here http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?401295-Help!-Engine-mystery-potentially-dangerous&highlight= the wretched thing still cut out as we slowed to enter the harbour.

Consequently I am in the process of dismantling and checking the entire fuel system. I have a new lift pump to fit and am also going to take off the high pressure pump and have it checked. Belt and Braces time.

Sent you a PM when we returned from Holland. Probably still in you inbox!

I suggest you pack them securely either sell "buyer to collect" or "buyer to arrange carriage"

It's really easy for the buyer to arrange collection but get a quote to help make it easy for the buyer to make a decision.

I have been using Parcelstogo until recently. Then I checked out some of the carriers own sites and found that for example my Hermes were offering a better deal direct than via Parcels to go.
Similarly up here in the Highlands AJG were offering really competitive nationwide rates on their own web site.

Your question regarding Ebay sales: selling this way is easy but you need to be aware of the 'hidden' charges. You pay to insert your ad but Ebay then take a large chunk of the money the item fetches. Then, if you use PayPal, they charge the seller another hefty commission. On items selling for three figures the total lost is considerable. Investigate alternative payment methods, or 'buyer collects and pays cash'.

As others have said, sending by parcel carriers is simple but arrangement by the seller will always be a good selling point.

Don't use sticky labels on sail bags, they can peel. I would suggest wrapping in cardboard or a box anyway or using pallet wrap to protect it.
