I haven't been for a couple of years but the last time I went it was well attended by traders and public.

I missed the boat jumble at Malvern this year so intend going to Cardiff.

Generally they do seem to be less popular which I find surprising considering the bargains to be had at a time of recession.

However I haven't seen Jimmy Green (for example) in the west/southwest for quite a while and the lack of traders like that does seem to put off the public.

At the end of last summer the boat jumble at Newton Abbot was very good so maybe things are improving.

Your profile does not contain your location and the journey time and cost is a consideration but if you have specific needs I suggest going. I like to go even just to stroll around. It gives me a day out and helps revive my enthusiasm for the forthcoming sailing season.

Im travelling from the Midlands and the thought of a 2 and a bit hour journey for a few stalls isn't something i really want to do. I attended notts and lincs boat jumble last weekend and left disappointed.
I like yourself aren't looking for anything specific just to have a wander around.

We will probably be there to provide a bit of entertainment!

Boat Jumbles are useless, I went to one in Kent a while ago and it started at 10am. there was a fence and security guards and we were all lined up to go in, and you could see all the traders buying stuff off others and then you get in there and the stuff they were buying gets sold for more expensive prices to the punter when it opens to the public.
It seems you can get better stuff on ebay

NauticalNomad,

True, there are bargains on ebay but in the same way that these days we buy a lot online we still like to browse shops.

It's the same with boat jumbles; you don't have to go with specific needs in mind. And I often meet up with people I have not seen for ages , so it becomes a social event as well.

Sometimes I even see something I didn't know I needed at a resonable price, and spend a little money.

After all, why do people still go to the pub to drink when the booze is cheaper from the supermarket and you can drink it at home - same logic.

IMHO neither Cardiff nor Gloucester jumbles are worth that sort of journey. I'm unlikely to go to either and I live between them so just an hour away.
