Hi,

I was servicing a 2003 Yamaha F15 outboard today and found something that doesn't exist in the manual. At one end is a bullet shape steel head that slots into a casing with wires going into the back of it. It is then has a spring that attaches to the CARBURETOR.

Here are 2 images of the part and its placement:

Any help on its identification would be appreciated.

Thanks

Craig

Looks like a primitive sensor .
As the valve opens the “ bullet “ thingy is pushed further into to a magnetic field which changes its valves , the current out of the wires will alter .
Or turned around a primitive actuator , a change in current at the “bullet “ end might push the valve in the carb for some reason - guessing if the rpm exceeds X from being airborne then it’s actuated to close down the revs and prevent over rpm .

Of course I write this without knowledge or sight of any other control mechanisms like the choke , throttle butterfly etc and any dials or indicators or knowledge of if there’s a dash etc .

Its an electric choke, the bullet pulls in when you push the ignition key in on most outboard engines closing the choke flap.
