Carbon Footprints

Did any other Forum members sense a certain irony with January's issue of PBO. After an article extolling Mukti Mitchell's low-carbon life-style, there are three further articles. all enthusiastically reporting mobo fuel consumptions of around 2 mpg. Phew! makes me glad for my 1 gall in 4 hours Beta. But I won't try to emulate the atlantic rowers.

Re: Carbon Footprints

I sensed the irony long before this. I live in a flat on Exeter Quay and the Mikroyacht in question graced our venue back in October by way of the Exeter Sea Canal. I over-winter my boat here and overheard a couple of the canal staff discussing with great amusement his trip up the canal which was accompanied by them on the Towpath in their 4X4 going back and forth as he became entangled in the weeds which had plagued me under power the week before and gave him an all but impossible task to row through. They were not able to calculate the diesel used to get him up here but the heat generated by the gigantic amplifiers and speakers deployed at the media event and my subsequent anger at having my and 90 other residences' peace on a Sunday afternoon shattered by noise and so called music, was substantial. I would not call this low impact on MY environment!

Yer ! So how different is this ply box from so many others made in the 60s ? The lad has a gift for publicity but what's the USP on the boat. I would genuinely like to know.
