Carbon Footprint (or should it be wake?)

I really have no idea what you are talking about, by high level journals are you saying journals that are read by a large no of people?

I really am interested as to what you class as a low class journal, is an Oxford based journal high level or low class? some are only read/understood by a handful of scientists, does that make them low class?

Re: Peanuts

A few more figures on ExxonMobil's funding of the Frontiers of Freedom institute and its succesor, the Science and Public Policy Institute. It appears that in fact it has funded this bunch of 'independent thinkers' to the tune of over a million dollars since 1998 ($1,037,000 to be exact)

Nature is high level for spread of scientific areas. New England Journal of Medicine is similar in medical field. If you get a full article in either of those, you are doing well. There are a huge amount of scientific journals, so you get ranked by which you are published in.

All the top class journals will be peer reviewed, the best classed journals will be peer reviewed by leading class reviewers, not available to lower class journals, so the standards are higher.

You scare me a bit by lack of knowledge of this process, as it means you cannot quantify any comments on global warming, as you have no means to process how valid or invalid any comments may be? Or how to access how relevant any internet comments may be?

If you disagree with this, don't take it up with me, take it up with the highest class minds on the subjects involved, as that is the best process available at the moment.

Thinking more about it, that is the general layman point of view as well. So, how do we give them that access without years of being a scientist, to access that knowledge. and making a considered opion. Almost impossible I suspect.

Re: Peanuts

On the other hand, there are oil companies whose conclusions are very much in alignment with the IPCC, and who would vigorously refute the wild assertions about the IPCC made earlier in this thread. There are also very senior oil industry executives who believe the world is dangerously near the "tipping point" in climate change, and that Bali did not go far enough.

Absolute drivel what highest class minds?
I have never seen or heard any appraisal of peer review journals, in the way that you describe.

For your information, the peer review process is first of all undertaken by ones colleagues & may then be submitted to a specialist journal, where it would usually be reviewed by 2 specialists in the field of the submitted paper.
Further, some papers can be submitted to conference & the obvious review of ones work is in applying for research grants. end

"what highest class minds?"

Those with the greatest ability to collect, analyse and present data relevant to the hypothesis, which supports or refutes it. As deemed so by their peers in the appropriate field, because noone else is qualified to do so.

They aren't necessarily the ones who shout the loudest.

The more that other researchers in the field agree with them, the stronger the hypothesis.
