You should be able to connect the antenna to the push pit rail, also note most modern radios need power even when turned off or the stations you have preselected will be lost, meaning you have to re tune it every time you get back on board.
Not being rude, but its 'aerial' /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Should earth through the screen, via coax plug as per boatmike. Should ideally be mounted externally though, not hidden behind a shelf. I have the same mini flexi aerial type job but mounted outside on the flybridge, no probs at all.
I have a bit of wire in the aerial plug, thats all and it works fine.
My GPS reciever is also inside under the deck, thats works fine and it can't get broken off.

Re-tuning ... If you can get hold of an older radio that has mechanical memory tune buttons - then power on / off is no problem. Trouble is they are getting rare to find.
But anyway - the power on req't is only mA for memory and wouldn't be a problem for most boats.
As ro aerial ......... just connect via co-ax - same as on car. if you look at standard car fitting it has an insulating pad in the fitting.
