Hi all

I have bought a new JVC KD R301 car radio to replace an ancient Radiostar one. A simple swop over with the ISO universal loom connectors has resulted in sound distortion at normal listening levels. I upgraded the speakers which made no difference. I have had the JVC checked and it is not faulty. Anyone can help?

4 x 50 watts output?

Is it distorted at all volumes, are the speakers all wired to correct polarity,

Are the old speakers wired in parallel? (be careful if they are 'cause this will blow the amp),

Start from the speaker wiring back to the harness and check that first.

Check as already advised and if you find no fault with the speaker wiring then check the input voltage remains stable when you turn it on, some modern radios have a high power demand on power up and you may need thicker power cables to fix it?

Could it be an earthing issue ?

easily over looked but as your boat is grp and not steel there needs to be an earth to the aerial too.

Hi

Thanks for your replies. Found that the rear speaker connectors had been shorted out as they had not been required for the old radio set. Problem solved no distortion now.
