We are flying to Athens and wish to hire a car to drive to the boat.
Do we need anything other than driving licence? I only have the old paper licence and its somewhat dogeared, thought I had heard somewhere that we may need international driving licence or similar??

Thanks

I thought that everyone had had to change to the new photocard driving licence by now. This one has the EU logo on, so I would presume this is then valid within Europe - maybe wrong, but would make sense.

You don't need an international licence. Old paper licence still seems to work for me. Rental rates in Greece are quite negotiable, by the way, even with the big names.

No. Any UK licence is valid in Greece. Like us they respect the autonomy of individual countries and Un like the tricolour countries don't hanker after a federal state of europe.

The problem with renting a car at E. Venezelos is the trek to the car pound to collect (& find) and drop your car. You'll need to allow a good 20 minutes to get back to the terminal from some of the lots. Also watch the traffic; it's quite easy to get mown down!

Hi there,
I agree with steve, even in these days through financial crisis in my country there are many difficulties to rent a car in Athens, however, if you go to visit another city or an island during your summer holidays prefer to rent from there, its better and more service-able I should say.

Hi there,
next time rent your transportation in the city or an island you are going to visit.
