I'm thinking of that appalling Medway barge conversion that was shown on Grand Designs last year. The build quality was such that it probably looks like your picture by now.
ps for them as don't know, Grand Designs was a television series featuring unusual houses [and the aformentioned barge]]
Nkomo Brothers first attempt at capturing a corner of Fairline's market was not the success they had hoped. They attributed this to the fact they could not get anyone to transport the prototype to the LBS for them.
I thought forumites might like to know a bit about the bloke who constructed this raft.
He has been living on board the raft for a long time (over 15 years I think).
The local council tried to evict him a few years ago, but local people came to his defence and he is now left alone.
The raft normally sits about 10 yards off the bank, but during periods of strong river flow it is moved closer in to the bank (as seen in the photo) - presumably by the Port of London Authority patrol boat.
The raftman is allegedly extremelty wealthy but prefers his simple life on the river - well that is what the local ferryman has told me.
At the weekend raftman runs a 2nd hand book stall on the embankment.
When the weather is nice raftman likes to sunbathe naked on the back of the raft.
In addition to his solar panels he has a wood burning stove on board.
He has several small rafts downstream which provide nesting sites for coots, ducks etc.
Raftman is usually to be seen wearing a large brown smock.
