regarding a new sprayhood and bars , would folks use a local (ish) company who would travel to the boat and make/fit the said hood or use a company from another area who has patterns and can supply the whole thing "off the shelf" for the owner to fit and being a quite a few £'s cheaper .

quality of workmanship is important .

depends how sure you are that the pattern and fittings are totally standard. Personally I'd prefer someone to measure up so if it doesn't fit first time its their problem not yours...

Had to make similar decision. Local firms messed me about for 18 months so went for a mail-order bars and hood. Now installed by me and fit falls far short of anything else in the marina! I'll take part of the responsibility maybe but looks like the hood wasn't tailored to the bars properly. If you can get locals to turn up, measure, make and fit in a reasonable timescale then I reckon it's worth any extra cost.

Awful Moody 346 in our marina made by East Coast firm. The owner held their feet to the fire for 18 months before he got a (semi) acceptable fit.

Suggest getting local firm in who actually do this for a living rather than a sailmaker looking to plump out his business.

Anyone who will turn up and make a template and measure it properly is where I would go.

The price is forgotten long after the sour taste of poor quality.

Nigel, spend some of your overtime money and get a local firm down to fit..
N & J Mussett from Mersea doing mine :D:D
Trouble is getting a bit late in the day, now season is nearly upon us...
