We have noticed the tape over stitching on the inside of our canopy is beginning to come off in places. Loads of suggestions on the net, any of them tried & tested ?
I've recently overhauled my sprayhood, mainly by hand stitching the seams that had come away, using Wenzel thread. It was hard work, taking about a day in total. I put it in the washer with bleach and washing powder, and contrary to popular expectation it didn't shrink. I'm very pleased with the result.
Venture 1163 is the double sided tape used by most sailmakers and canopy designers when binding two pieces of canvas together to stitch over or between window material and canvas.
Our Targa 40 had a navy fabric type tape covering the seams inside.
This was peeling. I glued some on with PVA - with moderate success and then contacted the people who made it to see if they could replace it. They said they no longer had the machine and had changed how they now did this.
I tried to find out where to get the stuff with nil success.
As more peeled off I just pulled it off, and it never leaked!
I am a bit ocd when it comes to things not being right, so the whole lot have gone off to be reconditioned, which is just as well as when coming round the corner of the Crouch / Thames the stitching began to give out as well.
