For various reasons, I've not been on the boat for about 3 weeks but I'm booked on a flight later this week and I cant wait to get back.

Withdrawl sysmtoms - or what!!

Anyway, I have a few minutes now so here are some pics of Sant Carles a few weeks ago.
You might like to treat this as an update but these pics arent really "hot off the press" but do give a good indication on how the marina is coming along.

How's the weather treating boaters in the UK this year - its been really hot in Spain - just look at the F1 yesterday - Sant Carles is only about 100 miles away.

Anyway - here's some shots of the marina about 3 weeks ago,

SWMBO and I had a hire car last time so we took a trip out onto the delta to see the Flamingos

And later we found a very secluded place to anchor out on the lagoon - literally nobody else for miles

Gave us a chance to experiment with different anchoring methods

And then earlier in the year - late May I think

I understand that the marina still has berths for sale or rent (on either an annual or special 4 year package).

Cant wait to get back

Weather has been fab in SoF the last week, one night in port, the rest at anchor, with windless nights and warm seas. I've never done so much skinny dipping. Just having dinner at anchor, then off to the fireworks at Cannes

Mike, if you have as good weather as we've just had for a week in Majorca, you should have a great time. No wind to speak of and well over 30 deg C. Unfortunately, we had to come home today. Shame

Nice boat, Nice Place and nice pics, thanks.

One question though, why do you have chocks on your bathing platform if your tender is stored on your flybridge?

B.

They are actually "plug in" chocks so that the dinghy can be put either on the FB or the bathing platform.

Most of the time the dinghy is up on the FB but I think in the pics we were experimenting - also we use the dinghy in the marina so, at the time that the pic was taken, it was probably a fraction easier to lift it onto the bathing platform than the FB.

Nice pics, thanks!
How come you've reflagged her from Malta to UK?
And what's that bit of white PVC with 3 press studs, wrapped around the bimini pole in the first pic?

Also, thought you might be interested in this. Modded p67 flybr rails, seen in Calvi a couple of weeks ago. I guessed they mainly used the flybr as sunbed, and kept tender mainly on swim platform, hence the logic of these ss rails

Reflagged - the lawers in Malta were asking too much to keep her on the Maltese resister - in Malta they have to reregister every year - or at least that was what I was being told - no brainer really - UK flag.

The PVC thinggy - doesnt really need it but the bimini can rub against the FB rails particularly when under way so its a bit of sacrificial PVC to protect the SS

I quite like those SS rails in your pic - but you would never be able to use that area again for the dinghy - which is a much better use of the space.

Interesting that they've made their bimini connecting to the radar arch like we did - most are much simpler like this one (Jenny 7 built a few weeks after JennyWren).

Radar arch looks a bit unbalanced with just the one dome - we also changed the terestrial TV antenna for a second GPS mushroom and put the terestrial TV antenna inside the empty dome.

A small project I've got planned is yet another GPS mushroom - directly feeding the PC on the USB this time - I've had to upgrade the boats PC with a solid state drive (the ordinary hard disk kept failing). The net result is that the PC only draws 1.6a at 12v out of the service batteries so I've written a Windows app which works as an anchor alarm - no need now to run the whole nav system at anchor.

So with three separate GPS receivers feeding into the boat's nav systems, the only thing that can go wrong is the GPS Satellite System itself!!!!!

just some confirmation about this
in Malta register you dont need to reregister every year
1) - you have a renewal fee which is 200 EUROS per year for boats under 24 metres, yes as I said to Mike British register at 75UK£ per 4 years in part.1 is much cheaper
2) - for the discounted VAT leasing scheme you will need to form a company which is about another 200 EUROS per year plus auditor which can charge you from 200 EUROS to 1000 EUROS per year depends who you find
these apart the auditor fees are standard government fees
first registration costs about 350 EUROS per year excluding survey

yes what those lawyers asked to Mike as he told me was plain off base, if someone is interested for this I can give much cheaper quotes to them, which I will work it out togather with my auditor
if interested just PM

Thanks for the pricing. Must say though, I can't see any reason for a UK resident to register a boat in Malta (apart from the beautiful ensign!). UK is simpler and cheaper. There's no tax advantage for a straightforward UK person in using the Maltese registry, though plenty of leasing companies sort of suggest there is

As far as initial registration was concerned, I simply went with the flow.
And relied on people who are supposed to be more knowlegeable than me.

There was an interesting outcome though.
As you know the boat was originally registered in Malta and when it came to transfer her to the UK registry, the Malta Registry wouldnt release the original docs (the original Builders Certificate, the original Cert of Conformity and the original Bill of Sale). They did issue certified copies and insisted that this was their policy. I believe some other registers do the same.
I tried lots of different reasons that I needed the originals but the best tactic was to keep on and be a ?loody nuisance until they eventually "caved in" and sent me the originals. I think its a bit of a cheek really. I can understand a registration authority wanting to keep the docs for boats that are still on their register but once they have been deleted, they should give them back or pass them onto another registration authority - they dont belong to them.

Anyway all's well that ends well.

Intriguing tale. Of course, with UK flagging, you get to keep all the original docs, once they have been examined and recorded by the registrar. Another good reason to use good old UK registration! (In other words, I'm inclined to disagree your "I can understand a registration authority wanting to keep the docs for boats that are still on their register ")

Glad it worked out ok for you in the end though
