Can't Decide

Re: Can\'t Decide

Ships will allways be good targets.Small boats will sometimes give poor targets . On the smallest range setting you can see seagulls floating on the water on a good day.

There are no simple answers to your questions sets vary in quality as do the people operating them, if i was only allowed one electronic instrument on a boat that had sufficient battery power then it would be a RADAR.

Re: Can\'t Decide

Some rather over-optimistic advice above I fear. Radar sets of the kind installed on small yachts cannot 'see' very well in heavy rain. On more than one occasion I have picked up a large ship rather later than I would have liked when it emerged from a rain squall that it was hiding behind. It's a tool with limitations as well as advantages.

Nevertheless I agree with Graham above that radar would be first choice of electrical gadget. Using radar effectively is not that difficult but is a set of skills to be learned. A course of instruction or some time spent with a professional user is not a bad idea.

Re: Can\'t Decide

I have a radar which i use when visibility is not good. However, if you can wait for one more year, you will be able to buy the new generation of radars; they have a much better picture, consume less power and they are much more efficient and easier to use. Worth the wait.
