Hi. I need to get a fully enclosed canopy made for a Jeanneau Cap Camarat, it'll have to be a bespoke job, Jeanneau can only supply a bimini. Can anyone recommend a company along the South Coast, the boats on a trailer so it can be left with someone. Sanders in Lymington are getting back to me with a price, but I thought it best to try and get some recommendations. Regards Andy

We had a bespoke canopy for a previous boat made by Tecsew in Gosport. Over the moon with the end product, they did just as we asked for, for the price we agreed and delivered two weeks early. Can't praise them enough.

No relationship to them other than being a very happy customer.

+1 JB. Good advice from Jim on where to have extra zips etc. Made the canopy much more usable. And tight as a drum.

I bought my boat (raggie) in August last year and inherited a spray hood and all over cockpit cover from Crystal Covers, Portsmouth.

I don't know what it cost but I know that the whole lot stayed up over the massive gales of winter - which surprised me as I thought I would come back to a wreck.

It seems to be very well made - individually and to fit together - so they may be worth thinking about.

No connection - not even a customer !
Good luck

Karen at A1 Covers in Swanwick. http://www.a1coversandsails.com/home

Effectively a one-woman band; she made a tonneau cover for me and I'm very pleased with the quality. I'm sure Tec Sew are also very good, quality-wise, but they quoted half as much again for the job as anybody else that I spoke to....

I've never used JB Covers, but they are recommended on here, over and over again.

+1 for A1 She has just done a complete set for my S34 - I'm very pleased. A1 are a bit more than a one woman band, I've meet at least 3 of them but still small enough to care. [no connection just a happy customer]

Can I ask you how much it cost you for a set of covers for your S34 as I also have an S34 and need a new set. I have had some massive differences in quotes, I know you get what you pay for and all that but I have had £800 difference for the same spec covers From £1300 to £2100 ???????

PM sent but for others was midway of your quotes

Not sure if you have decided yet but I can recommend Sussex Boat Shop in Littlehampton (if you are willing to go that far).. They just completely redesigned and remade my canopy from scratch because I wanted to change the design and shape of the canopy quite significantly.. This meant every panel changed.. End result is brilliant, better than factory and exactly what I wanted.. Give Mick a call, he is very easy to talk to and will get what you need done..

+1 for JB Yacht services.
Hear Tecsew have become a bit expensive. ( But a good product )

Speaking on behalf of Tecsew, in our defence I would state that we have tried to increase the longevity of our products over the years. As such we use Sunbrella plus canvas which we believe to be the best on the market and this will not be the case with all other companies. It's not just the fabric we use, but the sewing threads and all the components that go into the product being branded.
Most people will know that restitching is one of the main issues with marine canvas work and we have tried to address this over the years with the thread we use and the methods of construction and have had these methods tested.
We have also worked very hard to try and offer excellent customer service and backup.
I am not knocking any one else's work or quality, but there are reasons why we will not always be on a parr with everyone else's pricing. There are cheaper materials and components on offer, but we use what we feel will give the best service and longevity.

I hear what you're saying John. For me personally its not always about the price. In my business we sell well thought out and manufactured machinery, we are often asked to price a cheaper product that we just don't want to sell, as we know we'd be selling something that will come back to haunt us and ultimately damage our reputation. Much better to sell a product/service you can stand by, you can never be the cheapest when you deal in a quality product priced against something manufactured by the lowest bidder in China, you'd go bust trying to be !

Understand your point, however you were almost double the price of JB and my thought process was I could have two replacement canvas for the price of one from Tecsew for probably the same time period.

+1 JB, covers are good, but are a very tight fit so there is a knack to refit etc and I don't get any water ingress compared to my last two canopies, just remember to reproof annually with Fabsil Gold.
