We went from Cannes to a town in Italy (cant spell it so wont even try) I was at the helm and would you adam and eve it, a rag and stick held their course. He was about 30 foot and I am 128 foot, it would have been so much easier for him to alter course but alas NO.... it was his right of way but if I was in his position I wouldnt argue!!!. AND he had the wrong nav lights on (trawler).

Staying in Italy for 5 days to do some essential work. Then off to Malta for a re-fit.

There was no need to argue, you agree it was his right of way. The colregs required him to maintain his course and speed and you to avoid him as any good professional seaman should. Dont agree with the ' I'm bigger than him ' I'm afraid /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

As for the wrong nav lights...are you sure they werent just confusing, often are on fishing boats IMHO

Little giving way to Big seems to be an unwritten rule in the Med as far as I can see. I had to take avoiding action a few weeks ago when a very large 3 masted superyacht under power off Cannes (called Christina if anyone knows it) failed to give way to me as required by the Col Regs. The helmsman indicated to me that I should practise some self abuse and went on his way
