If you are, please drop by for a beer. My boat Match will be exhibited on Fairline's stand so I'll be on board or on Fairline's stand for half the day probably. I'm planning to be there on Tuesday 6/9/11, and Sat+Sun 10+11th, but likely not Wednesday-Friday

Hi JFM,

Yes, I will be there on the 7th......shall I bring my own drink?:D
I will be visiting the Numarine stand and one or two other Superyacht builders with whom we have some synergy.
Looking forward to seeing your boat and getting some sunshine hopefully

Sorry for slight off topic, but just wanted to say...

I am impressed that Fairline are showing a boat that has been in use for 6 months and is no longer "sparkling new" so to speak. This must be testament to the quality of their product and the faith that they have in their boats – I imagine there may be some manufacturers who design/build boats specifically for shows?
One question re Fairline: they recently announced an “Enhanced” Squadron 78 to be available next year. My guess is that this will include stabs and larger fuel tanks etc. does anyone know any further detail?

I caught a glimpse of jfm's Sq 78 across the dock last week and, suffice it to say, it was lucky I had my sunnies on to protect my eyesight from the gleaming finishes. Even so, work seemed to be going on to ensure that everything was as pristine as a pristine thing.

C'mon, 6 months! And with the sort of maintenance standard jfm surely has...?!?
If FL should rely just on this as a testament to the quality of what they build, they would be out of business in no time, I reckon! :D

Thanks for the open invitation J, I was planning to be there, and would have loved to see your pride and joy, but eventually I won't come.

Most boats of a certain length always have a certain age to them. In 2000 Genoa San Lorenzo where showing a 15 months old 82.
I think the most problematic for a builder is always to show hull one of a production series, which always needs adjustements. Little bits if you are lucky, and a lot is normal procedure. Obviously the most problems come the bigger the size.
I remember seeing hull one of the 68 Plus in 1999, oouch. Most impressed for me was the Uniesse 70 in 2000 later becoming the 72 Fly, that boat was finished just 5 days before the boat show with sea trial along the way to the show, and I could not find any defects. But the builder showed me areas where they will improve after the show.

But sometimes showing a new model is very important for the builder to start to gather interest for it. In Genoa I have seen boats which where completed on the spot....

Um, I need to say in fairness to the team who keep it shiny that it really does look sparkly new. No credit to me on that, all to them

Yes FL will have an updated version of s78 at LIBS 2012, hull #78. This is the same boat as mine but (a) squared hull windows like the sq42 and the targa 50/52, and (b) new furniture mouldings and dash for the flybr seating. Otherwise the same boat. I personally think that while they will improve the flybr aesthetics a bit the overall flybr is worse that the current model. I have seen the computer renderings and told them this. For a start they seem to be committing the cardinal sin of using black caulked teak on surfaces where you don't walk. I've told them and I'm not sure if they will be taking any notice or just going ahead and making themsleves look daft in front of longstanding italian builders. They're also changing the flybridge dash by using the Sq65 dash which is a big improvvemnt on the current boat but nowhere near as good as my custom dash

These are the only changes. No stabs and no fuel tanks, unless you order them custom. Hull #78, the one at LIBS, which is a boat for the SofF dealership, will have fin stabs though - it will be the second one they have done with stabs but the stabs are a custom spec request
