quite a few good marinas around the canaries. i only know gran canaria but would recommend las palmas if you like being near the city or puerto mogan for something quieter (but very touristy).

the last couple of weeks of november are a bit of a madhouse as the 225 boats of the ARC take up all the berths in las palmas and everywhere else is full with the overspill. once they go it's a lot quieter.

weather is good, provisioning excellent and the island lifestyle is laid back. overall, i'd say go.

We had a month or so in La Palma a few years ago now and loved it.
Tiny place but farly well protected harbour with good holding and wall to tie along side if got bad.
No great facilities but nice people and quiet.
We`d always go there as we like the quiet.
Depends if you want to leave her unattended really

Thanks for the feed back so far. Its encouraging. I think we need to opt for a marina, as we do tend to leave her and pop to and fro from GB. Noted about the ARC. You never know one day we may tag along!

You may want to Consider La Gomera - there is a good marina in San Sebastian.

The last time I used it, I found it was cheaper that the larger Islands. There is a Sea cat service that runs every hour or so from Teneriffe to La Gomera and takes about) 1 hour. The Marina at San Sebastian in the port where the ferry arrives - 2 minutes walk.

To get from Los Christianos Harbour to the Teneriffe South Airport is 20 minuts by bus - they run every hour

You have to be informed that from September to december most, if not all, marinas are completely Booked up.. due to boats which are crossing but also mainly to the A.R.C.

Inside of Las Palmas Harbour, there is a small private ponton where you can make a reservation.. the security is excellent and you will be more than welcome..

Martha who is in charge of the ponton, is a very charming persone and she speaks a good English

You can contact her at: nemonautic@nemonautic.com

We're leaving the UK next month for I life aboard, our plans are to spent this winter in the Canaries. Cheap easy flights to UK for family visits, nice winter climate.

We know the Canaries quite well from windsurfing, and there seem to be a lot of place to visit. We are particularly thinking about Correlejo (holiday town good anchorage, a few pontoons, good windsurfing and diving also near Lobos for quite wild anchorage.) and Gran Tarajal (quiet town so so anchorage small marina) and Morro Jable all on Fuertaventura.

Before going to Grand Canaria which we do not know the Tenerfe which we know well and has several nice places on the east side, El Medano and the red Mountain particullarly for anchorages and plenty on marinas about.

Maybe we will see you there!

Look out for us on Tighmara.
