A marina on the river severn is now mooring canal boats next to GRP boats, surely this is bad practice. Canal boats with black hulls mooring next to white GRP boats in narrow finger pontoons is asking for trouble.

Despite protest the marina management seem determined to continue this practice regardless. Surely the management are responsible if they put a cannal boat next to you then subsequently you find black marks alongside your hull.

Has this happend to anyone else, before I move marina's?

We have narrow boats in the marina along with GRP boats. Most of the narrow boats are kept together as owners of GRP craft generally don't want to have a mooring next to a steel narrow boat.

For the same reason, many owners of GRP boats won't share a lock with a narrow boat. Although I don't personally have a problem with it providing I have plenty of fendes to hand.

I doubt the marina operator would accept liabilty for damage caused by mooring next to a narrow boat,.

Why should mooring alongside a narrow boat be a problem?

When you moor alongside a dock do you not protect your sides ?

Are you mooring against the narrow boat or are you on the next finger berth ?

I dont have a problem using the same finger berth as a cannal boat because with bow thruster and twin engines I can get in without touching him, however the cannal boat that has been put next to me is ol and judging by the state of the sides is used to bashing its way into locks and berths.

Apparently if the marina operator puts a boat next to you and you were there first then they can be made liable, will check this out.

Also read somewhere here that annodes suffer more if you are next to a steel boat to.
