Can you upgrade/uprate a 3.3hp 2 Stoke Mercury Outboard ?

Can it be done? - changing the carb? removing baffle/restrictor plate, buy a bigger 2t - could do with a little more woomph - just a little say ½hp - don't suggest 4 stroke - been there twice and got rid of both - went back to the trusty 2t.

I am pretty sure that your Mercury is a rebadged Tohatsu. In that case it is already the more powerful model using standard components although they now call it a 3.5hp.

Could I get another 1/2 hp Sure all the old 2 stroke tuning tricks will work. Raise the compression stuff the crankcase, open up the ports and polish. Perhaps do a direct exhaust. Now where are my riffler files.

With difficulty as the powerhead is exactly the same unit as the 2.5 Tohatsu, 2.3 Mercury/Mariner. It just has a larger carburettor and better breathing.
