Can you swap helm control units ?

I’m certainly no expert but just had our dash revamped and after disconnecting the EVC throttles they needed recalibration as they were well out of adjustment. I’m guessing swapping might do the same??

Don’t know about Volvo but I am currently installing Vetus electronic throttles with a canbus system and each unit has a series of tiny switches in the base that must be set in a particular sequence depending on the location of the unit.

I have Evc A with 3 helm stations.

Fly / lower / cockpit.

Is there anything stopping me swapping hcu between helms or do they need coding etc. ?
Assuming you switch HCU from the same side engine then it will work without issue at either helm station you swap it to. If you swap between engines then they would need software overwriting to match them to the engine they are now attached to, although worst case for the short term would be fault codes being triggered for mismatched software
Probably wise to do a lever calibration of you swap between stations but that’s easy enough & just a case of pushing buttons

If of use to anyone in the future the answer is they are not coded to any particular helm position but port and stbd are coded.

This makes close to no real world difference but ...

1. If you have engine monitoring then you will only see one engine as it will have 2 number 1 or 2 number 2. Which engine you actually see I have no idea.

2. Sync will not work as the system can't see two engines.

Other than that they work fine, the boat starts , runs and has no errors ( evc a)

I then realised the issue and swapped port for port which worked fine ( the port stbd mix was not intentional )
