My previous boats used calor gas for cooking. Current boat uses Camping Gaz. Any advice as to whether this is readily available across the channel would be gratefully received, as I still optimistically believe that a sailing holiday will happen this summer! Thanks.

Gaz is french. You'll get that rather than Calor.

Find and check the website for availablity of cylinder sizes in various countries

calor gas do a nifty valve that you can use on a calor regulator to mate a camping gas cylinder to a calor gas regulator, thus allowing you to chose whether you use the more expensive camping gas, or standard calor.

One real advantage of this is that yu dont have to try to spin the heavy cylinder onto the valve in order to avoid kinking the pipe.

[/ QUOTE ] And from BES itis a whole lot cheaper (part no 8888 £3.14)

It is a good idea. A system that will take Calor cylinders for cheapness while in the Uk but able to take gaz cylinders, using the adapter tap above, in places Calor is not available.

Yes!!

With respect, I am not sure why people are talking about Calor Gas when you clearly asked about Camping GAZ. We use a 2.75Kg Type 907 and they are everywhere.

Agree with the comment re supermarkets, some actually keep the bottles alongside the checkouts!! So much for H&S /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

We are in Camaret.... the local 8 to 8 (which shuts at 7.30 /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif has them, the Super U supermarket has them, the chandlers has them. Has been the same all the way up from The Morbihan.

As always thanks for the patient replies to what was clearly a dumb question!

Not a dumb question at all, you needed the information and through the power of the forum you got the answer.

Yes Gaz is French and own Calor. In the UK both cylinders are filled at the same depot from the same tank and they charge roughly double for it in Gaz containers than in the Calor ones, a real rip-off. We currently carry 4 x 907 Gaz and a Calor propane (red) for the BBQ and I have it on the to-do list to switch the regulator to run normally from 2 x Calor with 2 x Gaz in reserve with the adapter mentioned to run Gaz for when out of the UK. This has reminded me tiz time to organise that little task!
