A few pics of a lifetime raggie's new boat in sunny Florida. Had a survey and engines survey yesterday and never seen such a good survey, this boat is 1988 but looks and works like 2008. She is a Tradewinds 47 Fast Trawler, cruise 8kts or flat out as tested yesterday 17.5kts, but we'll stick to 8kts at 3.5gph (3.0 UK gph).

Robin, she looks fantastic and has obviously been well cared for in the past (although I had to avert my eyes when I saw that varnished teak deck:)) What engines does she have (Cat 3208's?) Any way best of luck with her and for your cruising plans

I know I know, the sun deck teak is actually Cetol coated but this is more a conservatory than a working deck since there is a proper cockpit for line handling. Engines are Cummins 250hp we now know, advertised as 210hp but thanks to info gained here and from our engine surveyor are confirmed as 250hp. She has been awlgripped from the waterline up and bottom epoxied. There are huge (430W)solar panels and with propane cooking she can stay on the hook without needing the generator much at all unless of course you run the 3 aircon units. The washer/dryer has been replaced by a full freezer to add to the big fridge freezer in the galley as the owners just cruised the Bahamas and beyond and liked to take all the grub with them... We may decide to take the icemaker out to replace the W/D but it would be a shame as it is brand new and SWMBO is coming round to the idea of not having on board W/D as she likes her ice too! All the fridges and freezers are 12v as well as 110v. The Raymarine radar is old but good, otherwise all the electronics are Garmin and date from 2009 and 2010 including a 2010 Garmin autopilot. Not sure if we'll make full use of the sonar, fishfinder and sidescan sonar but I'll have a go with my rod and line.

We'll be keeping her based in St Augustine in NE Florida where she is now laid up as of yesterday and can be lashed down if needs be for hurricane protection. St Augustine is rather nice in a yankee twee sort of way, USA's oldest city and very touristy down town, very nice and very friendly locals. West Marine is within walking distance!

Nice RIB too as a tender, West Marine hypalon 3.50 with a Yamaha 15hp both from Nov 2009. Might need to buy SWMBO a doughnut and go really naff!

Ooh, no, the icemaker is the second most important bit of kit on a boat. I'd rather chuck an engine away than get rid of the icemaker

Very nice, Robin; I wish you many happy years cruising on her.

But admit it: you're going to miss bashing into a SWly 6 as you try to get from Poole to Brittany :)

With a fully enclosed Flybridge (which comes with insect screens too) getting wet doesn't seem that likely so our foulies might turn up on Ebay! They laughed when we turned up to try her first time with wind vests on, but is was 95degsF at the time. This is the rainy season in Florida and it is needed as there have been wildfires all over due to everything being so dry, even after some pretty impressive thunderstorms late afternoons. They do a mean sea breeze here though and very nice too to keep the boat cool without turning on the aircon.

Anyway I suspect 'bashing' might be of me rather than the boat if I try that trick again!

Congratulations Robin. Looks a very well kept machine. Wishing you many happy miles on her. And welcome to this forum (or whatever... I can't be bothered with the rag/engine distinction and if I were in charge it would all be one big forum not salami sliced :D)

I totally agree with mike: the icemaker is essential gear. And I'd lose the chintz cushions on the 3 deckchairs - make the boat as euro as you can and the septics will worship you :-)

John, Septics or Sceptics?

You could advise him on scatter cushion options too. My wife thinks you are either a God, or very well in touch with your softer side!!

Thanks. I'll accept today's Numpty award then!!

Yup I meant septics. Had I meant the other it would have been "skeptic" because weire in America on this thread remember :-) Thanks to mrs rafiki for the cushion compliment - very important bit of boat imho :-)

Presume some weight be added to one side in order to keep the old girl heeling over at 45 degrees in order to make things as difficult as possible like all other yots :)

I saw some Union Jack cushions in Harrods at Gatwick on our way over here, maybe those or the ones with Will & Kate on might do!

Mrs Rafiki thinks so too John, and she is doing her best to follow your lead. Unfortunately we don't have the storage space that you do, so will have to adapt to 2 or 3 options at most! We have pale upholstery, so it is a good basis for options.

Well I absolutely adored the Lloyd loom chairs and chintz cushions. An amusingly rococo touch which should be preserved at all costs.

A nice ship to go with them too.

The current Mrs Shead and I were heading up river recently and whilst trying to poor the first drink realized we had taken EVERYTHING off the boat prior to its trip up the M3....

With Windsor ahead there was no other option but to furnish ourselves with some Wills and Kate and Charles and Camilla's pint glasses...

So you say, Richard. But peering deep into your subconscious can you honestly say you didn't want them just a little bit.

Did you manage to get a Pippa seat cushion? :D

The wife went and got them and I am not allowed to mention the "P" word (is any man???).....even more so as her real BF (Pips) works for the same company as my Mrs..

But yes they come out at every social occasion!
