Need to entertain the granddaughter and dog. Is it allowed to land on Orford Ness now? I know it used to be squeaky beaky secret MOD and no landing. We just want to wander about and have a picnic.

Bah! Thanks. Just like when the military had it then.

I wonder how all the fishermen one always sees on the sea side of the Ness get there then? I can't see them having any truck with limited numbers, last ferry at five and three pounds a pop.

Shmoo,

In fairness to the NT, they've found a good deal of unexploded ordanance on the Ness, including shells, anthrax and napalm.....

Not a good place to be wandering around unguided!

Great! Sounds like Pyro, Clive and Duncan ought to go and do a trawl to get some interesting pyrotechnics for next years Pirate Weekend.

It's run by the National Trust who operate a ferry and limit numbers. Best ring them. Orford Ness website

I don't know that they actually limit numbers, but they certainly count you going and coming back, they want to be sure that no-one has been left on the Ness overnight. We went there a couple of years ago and were told that a couple who thought it would be nice to walk back to Aldeburgh along the shore without telling anyone caused a big search to be launched!!
