I have a lot of saved routes and waypoints from OpenCPN on my laptop that would be usefully transferred to the new Axiom 9 MFD on order that is due any day. The old ones on now defunct MFD were lost when it went tits up and I did a reset in an attempted recovery. I could spend hours out in the cold on the FB putting everything in again or even do it from below on my android notebook which links to it via wifi and Raymarine app but if I could transfer the opencpn stuff it could potentially save hours.

I wish I had the techy brain of a 5 year old not my 75 but I don't.....

Yes, you can. Within OpenCPN, tools menu> route and wayoint manager, the export your waypoints. Put the .GPX file on an SD card, stick it in the Axiom and import them.

Thanks again Paul. I see there is a Navionics bit of software costing about £50 for planning that uses existing micro card put into a USB adapter so can be used as an off network planner, but as I have already done the work on OpenCPN that is easier and cheaper to transfer,

You're welcome Robin. I use OpenCPN for planning, i have an onboard PC connected to a 24" LED TV, makes for a nice big screen for planning. I save the routes and transfer to my Garmin plotter, makes a nice combination and the PC (laptop) makes for a useful backup plotter, as it has a USB GPS.

We have two laptops each with OpenCPN loaded and USB GPS pucks, superb except impossible to see in bright daylight so only used below although I did use one with a sheet over my head once going down the USA ICW when we had a problem with an old garmin. My CM93 charts on the laptops are old so need to use with care too in the USA chart downloads for USA territories was free but my free rest of the world/EU stuff dates back to 2000. o_O I could get the £50 Navionics planner plug in and use my more up to date plotter cards with that or just check OpenCPN created stuff as and when put to real time use. it is winter so time for reflection at least.

I also have an old set of CM93 charts, but since UK charts became available at a sensible price i'm using up to date raster charts from Visit My Harbour. Two types available, one type you download and install on the laptop (comes with two keys so you can install on both of yours), the other comes on a USB stick, so can only be used on one device at a time.
