Hi I have a 26' Cruisers International that I need to move by road. Does anybody know what limits there are on towing such a thing on the road?

I have a Nissan Murano (4x4) which is a reasonably powerful 3.5l SUV but clearly my boat on a trailer is going to be a fair old load and before I even consider looking for a trailer am I wasting my time?

Alternatively what sort of money would I be looking at to get the boat professionally moved 40 ish miles to my garden for winter maintenance?

I used to tow a Crusier Int' 224 behind a Isuzu Trooper with a 4 wheel rollar coaster trailer, it was right on the limit for weight but doable. You say a a 26ft Cruisers In't do you mean the 224? (26ft LOA) if you mean the larger 286 then its definate no no.

you will be close if not over the limit what is towable with a standard ball hook, (max 3500kg)

I gues the boat is close to or just over 3000kg, so with the trailer you will be over max,
I wouldn't be bothered for just twice a year, unless the beam of the boat is > 2.8m, then you need an authorisation.

Your Nissan Murano is not suitable for the job, max towable weight is 1500kg. (in the Belgium Nissan brochure)

Thanks for the responses. My boat is I belive the 267 Vee Express which has a 26' hull length but is 32' LOA.

Anyway it does appear that I would be breaking the law by towing it as (a) my car is not heavy enough, (b) the combined weight of the boat (3 tons) plus trailer would be over the limit and (c) the width (10') would be too great for the law as well.

So is it possible to pay somebody to deliver it to my garden and how would they go about lifting it into place and what would they expect to put it on or is that just all part of the service of a boat moving firm?

Yes a 267 will be too big for any normal vehicle, suspect you may find its a bit more than 3tons as well, Cruiser's Inc quoted 1750kg for mine but on its trailer (600kg) its was over 3000kg in total.

A liftout will be about £150-200 the transport about £200-300, probably a lot more if your on the south coast, then the same back in again. Might be better to find a yard that will do a deal on liftout and hardstanding for the winter.

It may be worth investing in a cradle system for the boat if you intend to bring her home each winter, as opposed to leaving her in a boat yard.
Depends on how inconvenient the 40 mile drive is going to be each time you want to go for a visit.
