Can I steam dents out of a varnished table?

Hi,

I have some new thin dents on my saloon table (caused by someone rubbing a piece of plastic on it - long story) and I have been looking into steaming them out. I was wondering can it work if the table is varnished and water will therefore not be able to absorb into the wood prior to applying the iron?

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Dave.

Gently scrape away the varnish from the dink to get to bare wood.
If the fibre is not broken then you will be able to steam it back.
Place a damp cloth on the dink and then the hot ıron.
You will have to do this many times before the wood swells back but it will come back.
Then mask off with 3M Fine Line tape and do your normal bare wood-topcoat varnish regime.
Masking lines can be polished out with Finesse-It.
Cheers,
Chris
