can i mix two different types of grease?

evening folks, im trying to get some grease into my packing and ordered some off the interweb for the job (stern tube waterproof grease), its a cream colour - but the stuff already in the greasing point is grey, do you think it would be ok to mix them? wouldnt ask but im a bit wary of doing it at the point in question in case i start leaking or something

I'm not a grease engineer, but stern glands seem like a pretty low-stress application to me. I would do it.

As long as the are waterproof type greases I would just go ahead.

I certainly did for 7 years and saw no problems.
