We have an old Isotherm 3000 fridge system. The compressor seems to have broken- everytime we turn the fridge on the fuse goes, and when we disconected the compressor it doesn't break. The manual quotes Sowester Marine in Poole as the UK contact, but I can't seem to locate them- do they still exist? What's the way forward- are fridges mendable or do we have to get a new one. Can one just get a new compressor etc and keep the old plate? Any fridge menders in the Brighton area?

Cheers,

Philippa

Sowester Marine in ............................... do they still exist

[/ QUOTE ] No they went out of busines several years ago.

Have you tried a Google search for "isotherm" to see if there is another agent.

they are very repairable BUT getting hold of a compressor at the right price will be the killer, last time i looked a 12v compressor was nearer £300 than 2, plus you may have the problem of the fact that the original setup was filled with freon r12.
(for me no probs, i managed to obtain a bottle of r12 when they first banned it and i have the guages and connections)
you can buy the compressor and condenser as a package, already gassed on a bed plate, find out what gas you have and report back, i can then talk you thru it.

Have you looked at the 'for sale'section as there is a compressor for sale there;if no good you could try the wanted section.
Good Luck

Phanny, there is an excellent guy in Portsmouth who fixes boat fridges - Rob Wells. He serviced ours and fixed a couple of things for a reasonable price, considering he also had 60mile round trip.

Might be worth a call for an initial chat - he may give you a couple of tips over the phone.

Phone number is 07909 950979
