Can I add extra gauges to a Volvo Penta D4-300AE IVC engine installation ?

Can I just plug in these three gauges to the IVC system as is, or do I have to add any other bits and pieces, such as a rudder position sensor ? Does the IVC system need any reconfiguration to send that data to the new gauges ?

Oil pressure gauge 0-7Bar VP 874 908
Turbo Boost Pressure Gauge 0-7Bar (same as above) VP 874 908
Rudder position indicator VP 3 812 917 or VP 3 812 914

I do understand that Easy Connect via BlueTooth to a tablet would do the two pressure parameters, plus exhaust gas temperature, but I do like old-fashioned gauges, and there's space on the dashboard.

Thanks for your advice, in anticipation

Oil pressure would certainly work. Not 100% sure on boost; do you get a digital reading in your display already?
For rudder position you would need the rudder angle sender, unless you’ve already got it of course. Again, one way of finding out would be to see if you have rudder angle as a digital reading in your existing display

All of the gauges would come hardwired with a 3-pin male & female connection on the back, and so as long as you have a tachometer already then this will come with a socket on the back to accept one of the new gauges. Plug one gauge into the tacho & the next gauge into the first and so on. If twin engine, make sure the rudder indicator gauge is connected to the correct tacho (ie the one that the rudder angle sender is connected to)

If you don’t already have a tacho then you’d need one to connect the smaller gauges into

Thanks Andy - that's very helpful. I do indeed have the tacho so I'll start there. I only have the basic display, so I don't currently get boost pressure displayed, nor exhaust temperature.

I'll check whether I have a rudder position sender installed - if not, I guess I'll have to fork out for the VP one rather than the much cheaper KUS analogue one - is that right ?

I'll report back here on progress with this.
