Hi,

I have been asked by a friend to get a value for his beloved 1960's Mason Speedboat as he is finally selling her for something bigger.

She is Canadian Clinker Built to a very high standard and fitted with a new (reconditioned 115hp T+T mercury) outboard still with 6mnths warranty.

The boat is imacculate in evry respect and cruises along nicely at 35knts.

The trailer is twin axelled and might need a tiny amount of welding, but otherwise great!

So how much do you think he should ask?

These things are hard to value, but she is very pretty and looks to be in excellent nik.

Wooden hulls take TLC, so you would need to find someone who was prepared for that. I would suggest £20k as a fair asking price. Is the trailer road legal i the uk?

To Be honest, the engine lets the boat down. I would actually only value her at Ebay Price of £4000, B & O at £6000 and possibly £7500 in a specialist Magazine. Although beautiful an old boat needs someone to want her. Very difficult to value, sorry.

Jez, are you looking through rose tinted glasses today /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Re: Can anyone value this boat please

thanks for your thoughts Jez,

he has spent the entire winter stripping the hull back to bare wood and re sealing her and priming her, she is stunning!

The deck has been oiled and took 28 coates!!! a wooden boat would be just too much work for me personally, but this particular boat has been very much loved for a number of years.

The trailer? he uses it in the UK so one can only assume?

A proper speedboat, no idea on value but you could try the Classic motor boat association, she looks right up their street, they have a lot of speedboats from the 50's and 60's

Try www.oldspeedboats.co.uk too.

Lovely boat, but this is a very niche & specialised market, so your friend may have to wait awhile to find that right buyer.

Me ? I'd love it but have nowhere to use such a thing anymore sadly.
Certainly £5k - £6k I would suggest if she's as good as she looks. One things for certain though, there ain't any money in doing up old boats !

Hope your friend finds that buyer

similar to Broom of similar era

There are a number of the above for sale at the moment which are similar in appearance and have a certain "trad' boat" following. You could do a search on www.boatsandoutboards.co.uk
I fear it will be nearer £10k than £20k. It matters not how much one spends on a trad' boat, as it is only ever worth what a very small number of people are prepared to pay.
