A couple of years ago or more there was a post giveing a very detailed discription of how to buy and sell on ebay

Ive found a replacement IBM X40 for my thunderstruck IBM X40 id like to buy it as IBM is a very good laptop but not the IBM soft wear which is hopeless!!

I just logged in and as i havent been to ebay for about 4 years when i was last ripped off ive been offered to sell 3 things! Ive no idea what to sell,

thought perhaps i could sell Stella!Since yesterday evening we (i) have only water to drinkand cassis syrop in the evening,up at 7.30 which is ok but only to have orange duice and tea or coffee (she makes coffee which always smells wonderful but dosent taste of anything)Then we go for a long walk raining or not!!Help

Not even a small glass of white wine at 7.00am!!And water with lunch!!!

Woman! She knew my visa card would expire and ive been haveing such a good time i dident collect my new one nor have it sent yet she never said a word about "our" diat untill now!!Only she has money for the moment and i have to do as im told. For now!!

Any help with ebay or link to the old post

The X40 went to someone else! Its really a cheat as the last bid had been 270€ and yesterday 260€ i bid 311€ and the indicated price only rose 1€ when it was almost over it went to 405€ and was sold??????

If i had put 1000€ im sure it would have been 1000€ as the bidders are not shown so the company selling can see the maximum bid and make one just 1€ below!!

Is ebay really such a rip off today??

Now were going into the walm dry cafe for a large pot of tea!!!!!!!!!!!Help the wi-fi connection is in a cold drafty place such is life during the summer in the north it seems,i almost cant remember what the sun looks like or what its like to be to hot outside. We could be in the baltic if it wasent for nice people good cafes and great old villages not to mention algee free water,in the baltic there was no swimming becouse of poison algee and on the empty boreing endless islands were ticks or nothing at all!!Now im going to drink a large glass of tea with a slice of fruit pie!!(no cream allowed ill bet)

And the queen mother took champagne every evening.

Everyone in a cafe before 8am will be drinking white wine normaly 2 glasses,if there are just three people often you get an extra half glass given as thats one bottle!

What about ebay instructions in English??I must get another laptop soon then ill have to collect my new visa card and the laptop leaving Stella to look after the boat.Going back in to finish the tea! I just came out to look at ebay and emails between the rain.

Simple really. Open an Ebay account, log on and bid for laptop.

Win bid.

Wait for laptop to arrive.

Wait for a bit longer.

Realise you have been conned.

Vow never to use ebay again.

thats what happend last time becouse the shop selling was in Paris and i was in Cannes. They were muslims! They had really bad lap tops and i got loads of messages from others that had bought from them.

Ebay did nothing!!That cost me a large packet with everything printed out, eventually after months i got this that im now useing which was is a very rough italian one,i had to use my HDD battery and keys from the key board, then i found that the processor wasent a 500 but a 333 and the grafic cards not compatable or whatever becose i cant save or print and the post hear for example are 50% to large
With eprompter that i use for my email the small page it displays on other laptops fills the screen on this one.

That still dosent tell me how to use ebay? The post perhaps from tome???Was at least a page or more long and very helpful,i dident save it becouse i had been cheeted

This time i will buy a laptop from a supplier that i can "buy now" and collect there are two in Nice and one in Paris that i will call on monday

WOMAN!!!!!!! Stella left me hear while she went off shopping and exploring with another woman,When shed gone i rememberd a bottle or two of Saternay clos de Malte 1987 which is a rather good Burgundy,When i had it i found that there wasent a cork screw??When i asked the boat behind if i could borrow one she said they hadent got one and her husband looked suprised??

I think woman can be complicated!!The bottle is still unopened and the cafe neither has a spare cork screw??And will only give me credit if i drink tea coffe or soft drinks??Im very suspiciouse and feel awful.

Now im going back becouse i just had an idea!Perhaps a wood screw and mole grips?? Im off to try before she gets back!

1) never bid on anything that can't be paid for by Carte Bancaire or PayPal* (preferred).
2) look to see that they are PayPal pals (or summat like that, which gives you some protection)
3) look to see how many sales they have made and the number of approvals or grumbles
4) make sure that they have an identifiable and acceptable returns procedure
5) put in one bid, at the very latest possible moment (literally about 10 secs before auction closes)
6) your bid should be the most you are prepared to pay.

Result: you will get it for less or exactly what you were prepared to pay, or someone will have got it for more**, but nobody will have had a chance for second thoughts, if their top bid was less than yours. If there is something wrong, not as described, then bung it straight back to them, and ask for your money back (you probably wont get the postage, so count that as a possible loss in the first place). If you have a problem, get into the disputes procedure. If using PayPal, they can and will get your money back (within bounds, cant remember you should check).

I have bought loads, and sold a few, and am quite satisfied with eBay. I did have to return an expensive tripod, and lost the postage, but otherwise, very happy.

*establish a paypal account, it will be v useful and costs nothing to set up, but is increasingly usable outside eBay and adds a level of security. Carte Bancaire gives protection to 50% of value of goods, usually, as the CB enjoys joint liability with the seller.

**Why one bid, and last possible moment? The way the bidding works is that the current bidding will be ratcheted up automatically do establish a new winner of the bidding, eg. if the bid is 20, and you put a bid in of 50, and nobody else has a pending bid, then you will become the current winning bidderl, for 21 (or 22). If, however, the previous current winner had actually put a bid in for 35, say, your winning bid would be 36/37. If he had bid 60, then he/she would become the current winner for 51/52. In each case the bidding will increase to make someone the current winner, and ratchet the bidding just enough. The last possible moment means if you won the bidding at 36/37, the other bidder will not have time to decide his 35 was not really his maximum bid. Most auctions are won like this, and that is why your laptop went the way it did. C'est un question de chance.

Just decide how much it is worth to you. Bid that, and you win or lose the auction within the next ten seconds or so. Requires careful synch of your computer clock with the eBay clock, to be found at the bottom of any eBay page.

As always, enjoy your posts Trouville

Will you travel to Cherbourg in September for our annual meet, or is this inconvenient?

hope so! I just dont know where ill be then could be stuck in the Baltic again though this year again i havent made enough progress what with the rain and one thing and another.
Im also hopeing to do two landrover rallys in september one in Lyon the other in Burgundy so i ought to be not to far from Cherbourg if Stella lends me her 2cv i could even aford to get there!

£400 is 4000frs which is 1000sfr that is 601euros ill go and look at the link though im more or less set on another IBM X40 for 498€ or an X30 for 325€ which would do and comes with a DVD base which has a second battery giveing about 11 hours or at least 8/9 hours. mine even though its almost 4 years old still dose a good 3 1/2 hours before im down to 30% though by now it dose shut down quite soon after that.
Stella has made a cup of tea then bed! Shes also hidden the bottle of wine but what she dosent know is that there are 3 more!!All i needs a cork screw and for Stella to go shopping again! But tomorrows a busy day.

Very good laptops at very very good price! But there to big! I cant use anything with a screen bigger than 12 inch this compaq is 10inch and thats perfect my IBMs almost to big with a 12 inch screen,as i tend to take it with me into town when ive found a wi-fi connection and any bigger it wont sit on my knee and uses more power

Sadly small laptops cost much much more than large ones and used to come without CD/DVD and only have 2 USB and one firewire,so now im equiped with external HDD and DVD.I would like a small sony but they realllly are expensive! So are the toshiba portage.IBM and dell are the best value small laptops. Thanks though good link
When i get a new laptop ill book mark it!This one wont do that either and i cant upgrade from firefox 0.8!!
