Can anyone recommend an Eberspacher mechanic?

Having poked, prodded, tried a new motor and so on, I have now removed my Eberspacher (and harness, control box, thermostat, pump, loom, etc from the boat, with the intention of sending it to someone to 'look at'.

I've checked all the usual fuel, electrics etc, but the motor refuses to start.

Does anyone know a friendly mechanic I can send this too?

Heater is an early 90's D3L C.

Thanks.

No - I've just 'mended' mine myself (see previous thread).

Did you try reading the fault code (the older control units allowed you to do this)? Also, did you try connecting the control unit red and yellow wires together? This initiates the start up sequence (and bypasses possible failures in the control unit).

Unfortunately I can't read the fault code with my control unit :-(

I'm feeling it's a control unit problem; either the aluminium box or the PCB on the heater itself.

I guess if someone can read the codes then they'll get a quick answer...

In your previous thread I am sure that two other forumites both offered to take a look. Perhaps you could try a Private Message to either of them.

Hopefully you have tested the resistance across the flame fail device, the overheat device and the glow pin. Any of these being out of spec will prevent the unit from starting.

Did you see anything that looked burnt around the unit.. something being sucked into the air intake could have burnt onto the burner casing.

Eberspacher

Auto Electrical Services in Leighton Buzzard diagnosed the problem with mine. Under their direction I had removed the harness and control box etc. from the boat (then in Sardinia) and brought it back for them to look at. It was a component on the PCB on the heater.

Krueger in New Milton cover the Hampshire coast, and have always been very helpful.
