I can recommend Tony McGrail, based in Poole. His telephone number is 01202 718440 or mobile 07711 329314. Just surveyed a boat for me and did an excellent job - very thorough.
I have used Tony Tucker several times now and he is very good. he is a fairly small guy, so he gets into the smallest spaces around a boat to investigate everything!
I last used him a couple of years ago, he came to Hayling Island to survey my Birchwood 37. I was there so I watched the whole thing. He arrived at 9.am. and started work, he pulled just about every part of the boat out and looked at every possible thing that can be looked at. He has a good ear for the engine side of things as well, but will tell you that its best to get a marine engineer to survey the engines. He said mine sounded fine and they have been!
He finally finished work around 6.pm with only half an hour for a sandwich at lunch time and all the rest of the time he worked very hard!
If this guy cannot find a fault with your intended purchase, then you have got a very sound boat!
I just feel sorry for anyone who has him surveying a boat they are trying to sell!!!
Use him he is bloody good! Tony Tucker: 01442 253775. His adverts always appear in MBM at the back. lots of quals.

<hr width=100% size=1>I just want to retire with my boat to the Med!
I would second that - I arranged a survey for insurance purposes with Jim Pritchard last June and got a very fair survey - no unnecessary nitpicking but spotted a few important issues which I'd missed and which were very valid recommendations - now done. Make sure whoever you choose knows whether it is a prepurchase survey (= spot as many things wrong as you can) or an insurance survey (= keep the boat safe).
