Yoh welcome!
It looks quick!
I have seen something very similar
It was from a South African yard but at the mo I can't remember the name
It might come to me after another glass or two!!

Fill in your profile a bit mate
There maybe someone on the Forum near you with a bit of knowledge that can help
Not only identifying the boat but as it's your first, with other stuff too.

On it being an American Bass boat of some description, low freeboard, very little draft etc and a Force outboard hanging off the back

Have a look around here...

Cheers guys
all seems a lot more exotic than i had imagined - south africa and usa - is it common for small boats to have travelled so far?
engine is definitely us origin according to the id plate and nothing to suggest it has been changed
Is it neccessary to know make/model for insurance? does the boat need a registration number or paperwork - the guy i bought it from laughed when i mentioned it.
Trailer was built in the south of england so I reckon it has travelled at least that far.
Thanks again
P

You need evidence that you own it - there is a document called a Bill of Sale which the vendor signs transferring ownership to you. There is no formal registration required unless you are taking the boat abroad. Insurance may be tricky - although it is not compulsory, but required by most harbours - without knowing the make. Otherwise the insurance co won't know that the boat is properly built etc. However, suspect they will accept a surveyor's report, so speak to a couple of companies to find out what they need.

Also worth getting the RYA books on owning a boat - or better still join and undertake some training if you are serious about boating.

Enjoy!

A few months down the line, sun is making the odd appearance so its time to pull the tarp off my puzzle boat and see if anyone can give me a clue identifying it.
I live a stones throw from the sea but cant launch it as I need liability insurance - which I cant get without somehow identifying my craft.
The resolution is to tow my boat 50miles overland to the nearest water which does let me launch uninsured!
Maybe i will offer a prize to the winning post!

Some new pictures then
