I need a new dingy and what I thought would be fairly simple has turned out to be more time consuming than I expected. I am looking for lightest tender that i can find that will take a Yam 4hp engine as I have one that's only done about an hours running. So far the Zodiac Zoom 240 (21kgs @ £426)and 260 Aero (26kgs @ £680) seem to be the lightest ones I can find. The 260 Aero is bit pricey. In most cases the other manufacturers and their adverts don't give the weight. Any advice would be appreciated. I think 26kgs is about as heavy as would want to go to. Thanks.

Re: Can anybody recommend a lightweight dingHy?

I've had ten years so far from my Bombard AX3, which according to the Aladdins cave website is 23 kgs.
I chose it as being the biggest that would go in the cockpit locker of my Impala. It travels inflated on the foredeck some of the time, but my boats probably only get an average amount of use. With a yamaha 2 we can carry it up the beach ok, swmbo takes the light end though!
Don't know if thats relevant or not!
Cheers,

Plastimo 240L, 19Kg and takes 4HP around £350 (seatech for excample).

I've got one and think it is excellent.

Marc.

Seahopper folding Kontender. Very expensive, but Sails, rows and motors like a proper boat, is 1 man liftable unless you are over 50, and folds flat for storage on a roof rack or side deck. Marvellous.
My last one lasted me 15 years with zero maintenance and was going strong when we sold it with the last boat. You can even race them against mirrors if you want to.

Or did you want a cheap inflatable or solid foam?

I was looking for a similar spec a couple of years ago, and found these.

240TC takes up to 4hp and ultra light at only 12kg. I am very happy with mine and the kids (9 &12) can carry it easily even with the engine on it. But- theres always a catch - they are not cheap.

Seago T-230 takes 4 HP weighs 25Kg is 2.3m OAL x 1.3m beam (only know that cos I have just bought a liferaft and have catalogue) About £300 I think for a new one.

Maybe something like this:

IIRC, they have an 'Ultra Lite' range that might be worth a look...

Ordered a UL260 at boat show price of £500. 22kgs. Up to 5hp. Seem like a good bunch to deal with from my phone call, so thanks for the info Mark. Appreciated.

I have a Lodestar UL250 and have been a bit disappointed. Got two separate punctures in 2 days. PVC doesn't seem particularly robust. There was no obvious cause of the punctures, must have caught on something rough while moving from car.

I'm thinking of replacing it with a small tough inflatable like the avn redstart.

Ive just bought a Zodiac 260 - yes a bit pricey but is very well made and feels solid and like it will last.

Have you looked at the dinghy Lidyl have on offer?
