We have an old Autohelm 1000 which still works, but I fancy linking it to Seatalk output from our ST60 GPS repeater to steer to true direction. Can a Raymarine ST6001 control head run an old Autohelm 1000? I imagine that the output it needs is just three or four wires taking 12V to the stepper motor.

Why not ask them?
They are pretty good at answering questions.

As above, but I would expect the answer to be no. The AH1000 doesn't have a stepper motor anyway, just an ordinary DC motor.

Well, if its any help I ran a ST3000 Wheelpilot through a ST6000 control head mounted at the chart table with position data from a Lowrance 5150c . But... that connection was to the ST3000 control head in the cockpit which had sea-talk capability. I guess the question is... re your pilot how old is old and does it have NMEA 0183 input SeaTalk
