Can a Garmin GPSMAP 498 use older (not g2) Bluecharts?

I am upgrading from a Garmin GPSMAP 182 to a 498 (I am waiting for it to arrive). Both take Garmin's proprietory memory cards but the newer unit uses Bluechart g2. Will my old Bluecharts work on th 498 or do I have to get all new g2 charts? The documentation doesn't seem to say.

I am not familiar with either unit, but the old Garmin charts were on a kind of memory stick, whereas the newer ones are on an SD card and will not fit.

This is somewhere in between. It has the same Garmin proprietary memory stick (before they switched to SD cards), but uses g2 charts!

In that case you can only suck it and see. It would not surprise me if they do not work; Garmin have a habit of making their older model redundant! You certainly will not be able to get chart updates except in the new format.
