I will have quite a boatload of crew this week and am thinking it will be more comfortable if I can anchor off and unload some of them at the rocks so they can wild camp there for a night or two.

Has anyone done this? Is it a good idea? is there somewhere on the Deben thats better?

Above the tideline it is indeed private land, belongs to Simper Farms, Robert Simper and his son keep their boats on moorings near Shottisham Sluice.
There is a public footpath which runs along above the beach and you can walk along it back to Ramsholt or north towards Methersgate, but there is no civilization nearby.
Folk do have barbecues on the beach but some while back the Simpers requested that visiting yachtsmen refrain from cutting down the trees for their camp fires.
Tents would probably be frowned on, I don't think I have every seen any there. How about a cockpit tent?

Maybe try Waldringfield, the SC might allow tents?

I doubt it, even though the club may want to.
Some years ago my kids asked to camp there for a Cadet Week, but it was very difficult to arrange. Even camping in club member's gardens was likely to cause disapproval from the local residents and not worth risking any upset.

:):)

has anyone tried Camping at 'The Tips' below Methersgate?

I recall it has a sandy foreshore and beach, with wooded surroundings, and good drying out ground!

But t'was a while ago, and I was a lot younger.
