Camp Ribsters, Cool Cruisers?

Re: steady, grumpy

Hey, jfm sorry I seem to have rattled your cage, but I was in fact trying to do some serious research. I was in no way favouring any one type of boat, just the question WHY as a newcomer to the sport is it that I see some people can be so petty and bitchy about other boaters, whatever they are. I do understand that some banter is a laugh, but some, and may I say I have noticed it more in Ribsters, will not even entertain anyone else's choice of boat in life, as far as they are concerned it must be a rib, even if you have to squash up under a bit of plastic to sleep on your side at night, only MY opinions. But unless I get some sensible answers to my question I will never know. e.g. Why does a sailer, ribster and powerboater all turn up with the same type of Vauxhall Vectra with trailer attached, launch their boat, and then slag each others boats off, beats me. I do see ladies with great big 4 x 4's who drive it 2 miles a day to and from a school, with it never having seen mud, totally stupid if you ask me, but then maybe I am missing something (or jealous I can't afford to have one hanging about like that (car not wife that is). L.O.L.)

Re: steady, grumpy

No probs, no offence taken. It's just that you will never ever agree with everyone else's choice of car/boat, and I would expect many not to agree with my choices, so let em get on with it. I share your frustration with the ribnet (occasional) attitude that if it's not a RIB it doesn't count for anything, but I ignore it, a forum is the sum total of its participants' views so let people think what they want

In fact you already dont agree with my choices. My wife has a 5 litre teutonic 4x4 and each morning she drives the kids to school in it, precisely 2 miles. We never ever take it off road, and dont plan to. You think it's stupid, but no-one's asking you to do the same, you can do what you want. I'll give you her email address and you can tell her your views directly :)

jfm, I am only jealous that I don't have one!! Anyway I have put some bits on the mooring thread, a bit as you suggested, I feel that now I have had some experience although it was only a couple of days I can say a bit. I can tell you though that i was so thankful I did that course, there is so much to learn! But I guess if you just go out without doing a course you may never know until it is too late. People have the choice to do it or not, I will just standby with my tow rope, ready to agree a salvage price. (I learnt about that as well) L.O.L.

get rich quick

OK. If you manage to make money on salvage, let me know. When I was in Lymington for a couple of years, I regularly pulled grounded raggies back to safety, when they had got a bit close to edge of river in falling tide. But none ever offered a beer, let alone money. Praps I need a better lawyer. Good luck!
