Camber stripes

Having new sails made and my sail maker has asked whether I require camber stripes on both sails. Never come across these before. What are they for and how would I use them.

They are solid black or red stripes of dacron running parallel to the foot of the sail, normally at least third height. They give you some idea of what the sail shape is.

I have them on my main and find them quite useful (especially if explaining sail shape to beginners). I'd quite like them on my foresails too.

Ask him to put little marks at 40, 45, 50% of the cord length - this will help you set the point of maximum draft.
