We're currently in Laxe thinking about heading the great distance of 16 miles up the road to Camarinias. We have heard various reports reports about it but if anybody has been there in the last month or so whats the score there?

Its supposed to great to visit.
Don't go there - big drugs problem, very expensive marina, don't like you anchoring etc.

As we are travelling with 2 young children we would like some recent news if thats possible.

Thanks in advance.

Was there in May.

Safe berth; electric; showers ok; nice clubhouse; friendly marinero; reasonable price. Didn't surcharge our cat, although I guess they might in high season.

No problem with anchoring in harbour or (nicer) to the North by the beaches. They let you bring the dinghy to the marina pontoons.

Altogether one of the nicest rias, and one of the nicest marinas.

I also only remember the yacht club pontoon, was made very welcome, even arraged a small tanker to re-fuel me (no wind in biscay) but again that was 7 years ago. My landfall from Falmouth.

Quuote from my web site:

"Ría de Camariñas 6/10. An attractive small ria with two quite busy fishing harbours. Easy to enter. Anchor behind breakwaters or off one of the many good beaches, depending on the winds. Sailboats under 10 metres may find pontoon berths available in Camariñas. Seek out the traditional lacemakers and watch their nimble fingers. If a siren blows, a fishing boat is coming in, and it's a call for the fish sorters, who arrive at the Lonja (fish quay) with their long tables and many trays to unload, sort and ice the catch at any time of day or night. One night at 3am the sixth siren blew - sure enough, a sixth team arrived 15 minutes later as yet another vessel pulled in to the quay. Grandmothers, children, they were all still at it at 7am as the big lorries started to turn up."

From the comments made by others, it sounds as though there now may be space on the pontoon for vessels over 10m.

For info on other places to visit in the area, check my website.

We are in Camarinas just now, arrived Tuesday from the Azores.

Great place, friendly, sheltered - no problems at all as far as I can see. Pricewise, 8.25m is E9 a night, no charge for water, showers , electric etc. Friends with 10.7m are E14 a night.

Pontoons have space for 12m boats now.

You have just missed the big fiesta, so sleep is now possible!

Trust the Forum! This is the place for the hard info and more. We were in Camarinas this time last year. Good value, friendly, all the things the other posters have said. When the wind gets up it can be a bit lively on the pontoons and (when the wind is in the right quarter) you can get a but of a niff from the fish processing plant. Otherwise fine.

We spent 2 weeks on the hook in the ria late last July waiting for the south westerlies around Finisterre to go below 35 knots. (I know, just wimps). Took a little while and a lot of chain to get dug in as there as weed patches, but once solid we never moved. Very sheltered, non-rolly anchorage. We didn·t go in the marina save to dock the dinghy (which was welcome) but did use the internet in the bar.

In decent weather a good ria for pootling around in the dinghy which might amuse the kids too!

Still here,

Loads of space, nice weather, where are you and why are people bothering to post anecdotes referring to distant experiences?

We are quoting the current situation, time NOW, and it's great.

Suggest you get yourselves down here before Sunday evening as it may be going to blow a bit. Don't forget to look us up.

Sorry Jim,

Didn't mean anything negative really - your site in particular is a mine of useful info. It was just that the poster asked for current general information - is it OK, safe etc - and we are here right now - it doesn't get much more current and seemed to cover everything that was asked.

To reiterate - it's currently cheapish, safe, friendly, good facilities, boats of up to 14m are on the pontoons at the moment, lots of boats coming and going. Main drawback is wash from fishing boats. Lots of boats anchored off as well.
