calshot spit

Have my eyes finally given up or have they removed the Calshot Spit LANBY ? I didn't see it last weekend or the weekend before (I think ! )

Yes, I too was being lazy but had a great sail from Shamrock Quay to Solent, anchored and back again on Sunday and had two young children with me.

To keep them occupied, I got them to read the names of the port hand bouys as we came round calshot. I didnt see Calshot Spit bouy either.

There is still a bouy at Caldhot Spit but it's no longer the familiar "light vessel" shape. Instead it's been replaced with a regular channel marker bouy, indistiguishable from the rest. It's not got a name on it either.

I noticed that Castle Point bouy looks as if it's also been replaced, or at least well spruced up. Perhaps there's a program or refurbishment underway.

The Calshot Spit light float is frequently removed during the winter for service and repair. It will return, like daffodills, as a sign of Spring.
