I have seen several recent references to a "calorifier". Can someone explain precisely what that is ? It sounds like it is a heater of some sort; for water, for cooking, for the cabin ???
Sorry if the question sounds stupid, but the expression isn't used here in western Canada.

It is a means of heating and storing hot water on board. Water in the calorifier tank is heated by means of hot water from the engine passing through coils of tubing within the tank. Usually fitted to engines with freshwater cooling, but is sometimes used also if the engine is seawater cooled. Calorifier tanks are also often fitted with AC electric immersion heaters for when shorepower is available.

These are listed as 'water heaters' in West Marine USA catalogues and one version is from Force 10 which may be Canadian made?

As long asyou are operating the water system at a low enough pressure also known as Indirect Cylinders from a plumbers' merchant - might be cheaper.

Canadians are great, I married one. In my defence it was a yank who first said "divided by a common language" don;t remember which one though.

Canadian are very friendly. They went and burned the Whitehouse down for us in 1812, which was awfully nice, and something they are inordinately proud of -- to the point where a group called Three dead trolls and a baggie made a song about it called the War of 1812.. well worth a download and great to play to any American's who if they understandm get very indignant. I used to sing it all the time when I lived in Maryland, but they didn't get it, so no one ever ran me over in their pick-up truuurck.
