Calorifier

Thinking of winterising my plumbing but I will still want to use the boat for day sails now and again. Can I drain down the hot water tank and still use the engine without damaging either the engine or the calorifier......ie if there is nothing (water) to absorb the heat in the calorifier.

What should I do?

shouldn't be a problem as it's only hot water passing though the pipe inside and it doesn't rely on water in the calorifier to do any cooling etc

If you have an immersion heater fitted dont forget to turn OFF.

I used my boat last winter after emptying down water from tanks. No problems. Just remember to take a bottle of water for tea.

Our hot water system has taps between the engine and calorifier, check, you may have them too.

Good point about the immersion heater - I'd forgotten that!!
