Last summer whilst in Guernsey at St Peter Port I exchanged 2 Calor 6kg Propane bottles.
On two separate occasions I handed in a Calor Gas bottle and received a Guernsey Gas bottle in return.
Word of warning. The Guernsey gas bottles cannot be exchanged back to Calor gas bottles once in England.
(The Guernsey gas bottles work fine, the fittings are the same.)
Calor gas have a number of subsideries that they own and bottles from these subsideries can be exchanged between them. Guernsey Gas is an independent.

I investigated this a few years ago. The problem is that Guernsey Gas affix a metal label onto their bottles. Some UK retailers refuse to accept them for that reason.
So it might be worth your while to try other dealers.

The warning above might be valid for 6kg bottles. Today I exchanged my empty UK 3.9kg propane bottle for a new one that looks exactly the same. This was at Doyles Garage. I did notice that the 6kg bottles looked as they had been 'Guernsy-ised.' There, that's a new word for you.
