I'm taking a bunch of people out tomorrow but the weather looks a bit grim. My only alternative may be to stay in the harbour and go to Wareham for lunch. The tide tables look like this: Poole tides

What would be the safest time to leave Wareham given that we've got a draught of just under a metre?

Also it always seems to be pot luck to be able to tie up alongside there.Sometimes I've been all the way there only turn round and go back because there is nowhere to stop. Any ideas?

long ropes, large raft and thick skin.........but I know exactly what you mean and rarely head up there in season because of exactly that.

You have a simple tide in the Frome tomorrow with 0.8m range at Wareham and the tide will start to run at 1200h.

So, given that the tide height is actually going to be pretty irrelevant to you due to the rain water effect on the underlying river height (different thing) you are best off noting carefully the lowest point you encounter on the way up (will be just before the church) and noting the time/relative tide there and using that as the days datum. For example if you have 0.5m clearance at that point passing through at say 1030 then you can leave at up to half tide (0.4m will have gone leaving you a massive 0.1m spare) on the way back - which is 1500h. But even better is to note the clearance above and then note the sounder reading when you moor. (Between 1030 and 1215 the height should be constant there btw). Just leave before the water under the boat has dropped by the equivelient to the clearance you had on the way up!
