Re: ferro boat for 5k and GRP for 15k...
I have to agree with Ships Cat.
I have been involved in the building of a ferro boat and wouldnt reccommend building one from new for the reasons of poor return on time, money and effort spent when the time comes to sell.
You say you will never sell it, but I would suggest that life sometimes springs surprises on us that we cant forsee, and the cash realisation of an asset becomes neccessary. It is common sense to be aware of this.
I would consider buying a secondhand one if I was in the market for an inexpensive boat and one came up that fitted my needs. Cheap in, cheap out. There were many ferro boats built here in the past that were certified and well built. In appearance they are hard to distinguish from boats built from other materials. The level of expertise required to achieve this standard of finish shouldnt be underestimated. In the larger sizes they didnt suffer the weight penalties to the same extent as the smaller ones.
What is it about ferro that has made you commit to it rather than say, steel?( or any other material for that matter.)
Whatever my thoughts on the matter, I wish you luck with your project.
