Whilst sailing in a lumpy sea the other day, noticed a distinct clunk everytime the boat heeled from side to side. Never noticed it before although it might have been there. Having read up as much as I have available here I am dreading that I have the dreaded worn cam syndrome!!!!

Anybody out there had similar problems/experiences? I would really appreciate any help here as we´ve just got the boat to the Med and I am dreading having to take her out of commission to get this sorted. (and also the cost, who will know the procedures down here etc. etc.)

Please let me have your thoughts.

Many thanks i advance.

I can only think of two reasons, the pin/trunion is worn or the keel is not fully down.I think a call to Northshore on 01243 512611 might help as i have allways found them helpfull. You might also try the Southerly forum on www.soa-online.org.uk

The latest issue of the Southerly Magazine includes an article about keel pin wear etc, which might be of help. As you are travelling you may not have received your copy, if this is the case would you like me to scan it and send it as an attachment to an e-mail? If so I need your e-mail address. I assume you have a copy of the SOA "Technical Topics" which contains some other articles about keel refurbishment etc.
I sail a Southerly 115 and cannot really comment about a 105 except to say that I would not race into replacing keel parts without being fully satisfied that something is seriously wrong! I expect you have checked that the pennants are both OK and that you are sailing with the keel right down.
