Would be interested to hear any comments past or present owners have about post 2003 Fairline Phantom 40's.

Top of the Christmas list at the moment!

Few of us have Phantom 38s and the general opinion is they are pretty good boats, certainly I am very happy with my 2001 model, and can't wait to get out for some extended cruising next season (did I say next season.... wheres it all gone!) There are also a couple of Phantom 40 owners, so I am sure you will get some feedback.

Yes I remember that - you were looking very laid back and relaxed. Probably beacuse no one is allowed to stay the night ! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Unfortunately I don't have a copy of that issue, will see if I can get my hands on one.

Otherwise do you have any comments (both good and bad).
Looking at second hand probably a 2003 or 2004 boat.

Thanks - Philip

Hi Philip,

I think you have pretty good taste in boats so far. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif I only acquired my Phantom in July, so still fairly new to me. So far, I can't really fault it.

Mostly there's only the two of us on board over the weekend but yesterday we had 8 onboard for a quick trip to Portsmouth. Everyone on top, not crowded as the Phantoms' have the best Flybridge in its class.

Inherent fault would be that they get a bit sooty across the transom, but this seems to be a typical problem for similar shaped boats. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I'm on the case of a mod to the exhausts at the mo' so I may have a fix, just watch this space. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I'm also still of the opinion that around 40' is a good optimum size for the solent, so many marinas have limited space for visitors that you may have trouble getting in if you don't book ahead.

Also, we got talked into a trip over to Cowes on Saturday evening, (Folly night and dancing on the tables, but that's another story) F6 on the nose. Bloody great! but I quickly gave up and went down below when the second big lump of green water came over the top. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif Honestly though, apart from slowing down to about 14 knots, it was still a pleasant ride.

So far, excellent! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Hope this helps,
Roger.

Fully agree with everything Roger has to say.

The clinchers for me were all on the flybridge:-
1 Space and provision for a paper chart (OK, so I'm a dinasaur)
2 Access for the "navigator/barman" to and from their seat without disturbing the helmsman
3 Large entertaining area at rear of fly

Been out in all sorts of weather - no worries. Always been able to get into every marina without being told "You're too big"
Lazarette - superb storage area, (good storage areas all round), access to engines very good.
Two shower/heads. Good when visitors stay on board.
Only weak bit is the transom gate - bad design.
If you PM your address I'll send you a copy of MBM report.

Overall - excellent boat.
