Well would you have thought that MVII would let me down? Well she didn't but a certain captive marine yard in Chichester told me some porkies. "Course the power steering is fixed, it is still a bit stiff but loads better". Better bollocks, I've wasted my time, the instructors time, a lot of money as you can't cancel on the day. The steering is as stiff as ever. Even the instructor could'nt cope with it - total journey 10mins - down the fairway, around the pool and then back to the pontoon.
We did some thery stuff - like the sound of ferry gliding, but after lunch he left. I spent the afternoon fixing the shore power (now sort of works) and filing in the holes on the dash - it now looks loads better. Also got rid of the Navtex but left the aerial. I will take my cordless drill and volt meter down next time and fit in the chart plotter.
The boat will be fixed on Monday apparantly (oh yeah?) and then I re-take the tests in February. Having seen the WX today I'm not sure I'd have liked to be out so it might be a blessing in disguise.
So still (un)able seaman BarryD!! :-(( All rather typical of boating, bet you won't use that particular repairer again!! Weather looks even worse than I expected, which reminds me , why are you getting rid of your navtex.
Looking on the bright side, at least the days will be longer next month and Feb can bring some good sunny settled weather.
Well it was actually Peters marine, but I'm waiting until I see how they fix it before I condem them for good. I've also got an issue with oily handprints and missing halon bits in the machinery space. But lets wait until Monday when I speak to them again.
Your not alone with the oily hand prints, I've learnt to be prepared. Remove that nice white seating well away from the engine bay and cover anything else.
